While checking the score of the Stanley Cup final between the two American Teams, Detroit and Pittsburgh, I happened to catch Don Cherry and his commentary regarding the ceremonies at Juno Beach.
Don Cherry seems to be one of the only Canadians that cared that Canada did not participate in the fly by at Juno Beach. He also noted that the Canadian infantry were the only ones, who not only gained a beach head, but advanced over 15 miles before being ordered to stop and wait for the other units to catch up. This drive deep into enemy territory most likely also took a lot of pressure off the other beaches as the fighting was now advancing inland.
Being a proud Canadian and staunch defender of our heritage and fighting men, it never fails to amaze me that our paid politicians always seem to fail at recognising some one elses accomplishments and sacrafices. With all the Press Secretarys and Advisors being paid for guidance maybe we just need a Minister of Common Sense to guide these elected officials in recognising what is important to the people who elect them.
I am sure what Don had to say was not lost on the millions of Americans who were watching their team fighting for Lord Stanley’s Cup…….
